The power grid supplies power to the frequency converter through a three-phase diode rectifier bridge, with a power factor greater than 0.97. Since the diode rectifier bridge only turns on at the peak of the grid voltage to charge the capacitor, the current waveform is a sharp spike with a narrow conduction angle. The supply current contains 6K±1 order harmonics (K=1, 2, 3…), and the harmonic content decreases as the inductance of the incoming line reactance and DC filtering reactance increases. Generally speaking, after adding a reactor, the 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th harmonics still account for 40%, 35%, 25% and 20% respectively.

For occasions where there are other inductive loads on the power supply transformer, a TSC dynamic reactive power compensation device with harmonic filters of various orders can be installed; for workshops that are almost entirely equipped with AC-DC-AC voltage-type frequency converters, since there is no need to compensate for fundamental reactive power, harmonic reactive power needs to be filtered out, and a device with fixed harmonic filters should be installed. In order to prevent over-compensation under light load from boosting the grid voltage, the fundamental wave capacitive reactance provided by the filter should consider harmonic heating and overvoltage issues during design.
